Player Evaluation Dates & Times
Player evaluations are offered for JBO players who are currently attending 3rd through 8th grade. Each player will be assigned an evaluation date and time. If a player does not wish to go through the evaluation process, he/she will automatically be placed on a National level team for their age group.
Please contact Stephen Elske to request evaluation time changes.

All evaluations will be held at the Lakeridge High School Gym with the exception of the Midget and Junior makeup sessions which will be held at the Lakeridge High School hitting barn.

We will be fitting your player for their uniform and other available items. Please bring your check book or cash to purchase these items. The new uniform will include a Pacer jersey, white baseball pants and a Columbia blue belt. The cost of the new uniform is $99.00.
If you have your uniform from last year you will not need to purchase a new uniform, but please get fitted again to make sure that your childs uniform still fits properly.
IT IS MANDATORY TO COME TO THE LAKERIDGE HIGH SCHOOL GYM FOR A UNIFORM FITTING. EVEN IF YOU WERE FITTED LAST YEAR, WE WANT TO MAKE
SURE THAT YOUR UNIFORM STILL FITS.

Coaches
This years coaches who have registered to coach will be allowed in the hitting barn during the evaluations. Please understand that we will be limiting where you can stand and observe to make sure the players know who is evaluating and who is not. We will be somewhat strict about this aspect of the evaluations, so please be respectful of the evaluators and the players
Why evaluate?
- National level (recreational, less competitive, focused on fundamental skills development)
- American level (more competitive, advanced commitment level, focused on fine tuning fundamental skills)
- Federal level (most competitive, highest commitment level, focused on advanced skills development)
Pacer JBO also supports the goal of Junior Baseball of Oregon, Inc to provide each child, regardless of skill level, an opportunity to compete in baseball against other players of equal skill and age. In order to accomplish this, independent, professional evaluations are held at the beginning of each season for each age group.
According to Junior Baseball of Oregon, Inc., the true value of the JBO program is not to win games, but to keep as many youth as possible, engaged in a clean, wholesome activity while learning valuable lessons.
Evaluations are a good opportunity for your child to:
- learn to follow "on the spot" instruction
- do his/her best, at that moment, and to feel proud with the outcome
- to be confident in the evaluation process and know that he or she will be a special part of his/her spring baseball team
- be committed to his/her team placement and look forward to the opportunity of making new friends
- begin to set personal baseball goals
What evaluations are not:
- "just a formality" - rest assured, teams are not pre-formed
- a time to pressure your child (your athlete is probably already pressuring him/herself)
What if your athlete has a conflict with the evaluation time?
There will be a limited number of make up sessions offered on Sunday, February 22nd -- on a first come, first served basis. Details for scheduling a make up session will be available at the time the individual time slots are announced via the web site.
How can my athlete be prepared?
- Play catch before evaluation day
- Practice beforehand at batting cages
- A good night's rest
- A light meal before attending
- Bring a bat, a glove, batting gloves (if he uses them) and a water bottle
- Come dressed in appropriate baseball attire
- Plan on arriving 1/2 hour before your appointed time
- Encourage your child to play ball and have fun!
As a courtesy to others, please arrive 1/2 hour before your appointment, so that each group can start on time.
How will the players be evaluated?
There will be multiple evaluation sessions each day for midgets and juniors. Evaluation group size will be between 8 and 10 players. Seniors will all be evaluated in one large group, including all players .
Three experienced Coaches will evaluate each player based on criteria set by the Pacer JBO organization. Perspective Pacer JBO coaches will be on hand to assist and observe -- not evaluate. While evaluators may have children in the Pacer JBO program, they are not permitted to evaluate players in the grade level that their child will participate in.
After warm up, players will be asked to demonstrate their skills in a variety of areas. They will throw, hit and field. They will be judged on their agility, quickness, coachability, and attitude.
Player placement is also affected by the level of player/family commitment selected when you registered. You will have the opportunity to re-affirm your level of player/family commitment on evaluation day.
Can parents watch the evaluation process?
Due to limited space in the Lakeridge hitting barns, parents will not be able to watch.
Upon your arrival at evaluations:
- Review your registration information for accuracy
- Players will be fitted for a uniform
- Players will enter the gym and warm up
- Parents participate in a short, but informative meeting
- Following the tryout, parents and players will return to the meeting room for a brief follow up
What if my child performs badly during evaluations?
Keep in mind, evaluators are not only assessing the player's various skills, but their attitude, comfort with the ball, coachability, and appearance as well. The chosen evaluators are experienced professionals. They can tell the difference between a player having a difficult day vs. a player with less skill.
When will teams be formed?
Team rosters and coach assignments to be published on our web site approximately March 10.
